Our Commitment to Our Community

At Batemans, supporting our local community has been at the heart of what we do for generations. From our great-grandmother Susannah brewing beer and baking bread for local farm workers, to today’s community events and partnerships, that spirit of giving back runs through everything we do. We believe a good brewery is more than just beer; it’s about people, place, and purpose.

Here’s how we continue to play our part.

Batemans News, Events, Supported Charities and Charity Donations

Bringing People Together

We’re proud to create opportunities for our community to gather, celebrate and connect. One of the highlights in our events calendar is Bands on the Bank – our annual summer festival that combines fantastic live music, brilliant street food, a relaxed family atmosphere, and plenty of Batemans beer. It’s a celebration of everything we stand for: good times, great beer and bringing people together.

This year’s festival is set to be our biggest yet and will also be supporting an incredible cause: The Askefield Project – a charity that makes a genuine difference in people’s lives.

We’ve also hosted other fundraising events like our Five Generations Charity Fun Run to celebrate our family legacy while raising money for Macmillan Cancer Support, Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance, and the Dravet Syndrome UK Charity. While it was a one-off event, it was a great example of how our platform supports causes that matter to us and our wider community.

Throughout the year, our Saturday Socials at the Mill offer locals a chance to gather in a friendly, informal setting and enjoy great beer and great company. Meanwhile, our Meet the Brewer nights and Tap Takeovers bring Batemans to pubs near and far, giving beer lovers a chance to sample new brews and chat with the team behind them.

Supporting Meaningful Causes

Each year, we select causes close to our hearts to support through fundraising, special beer releases and donations. In 2024, we focused on LIVES and the Derbyshire Children’s Holiday Centre, with proceeds from several events going directly to these organisations.

Another ongoing initiative is our seasonal release, Last Post, a beer brewed every November in support of the Royal British Legion. We have also released the beer this year as part of the VE Day 80 Celebrations. It’s our way of paying tribute to those who’ve served, with a portion of sales helping to support veterans and their families.

Previously, we raised money for other vital organisations, including The Firefighters Charity, Macmillan, Lincs & Notts Air Ambulance, and more. By spreading our efforts across various causes, we aim to make a tangible difference in our local area and beyond.

Why Being Independent Matters

As an independent, family-run brewery for over 150 years, we’ve always had the freedom to put people first. Independence means shareholders do not drive us; our focus stays on quality, sustainability, and community.

We create jobs, support local suppliers, and work hard to keep our values at the forefront of every decision. That includes our environmental efforts, too. Through our Business Sustainability Programme with Zero Citizen, we’ve already assessed our carbon impact across Scopes 1, 2 and 3, and are taking meaningful steps to reduce our footprint for the next generation.

As Jaclyn Bateman puts it:

“We take sustainability extremely seriously and adopt the principle that we do not inherit the earth from our ancestors; we borrow it from our children”. We are constantly looking at ways to save energy, limit our waste, and reduce our carbon footprint. Our particular focus is reducing our landfill, and we aspire for carbon net zero over the forthcoming years.”

Sharing Our Knowledge

We also love welcoming visitors to the brewery to share what we know and are proud of. Our brewery tours allow guests to explore traditional brewing methods, see our historic brewhouse, and sample the beers from a long line of passionate brewers.

We believe in passing on that passion, whether through a tour, a chat at the bar, or a Meet the Brewer event. It’s all part of keeping that connection between the brewery and our community alive.

A Global Connection

While our roots are firmly planted in Lincolnshire, we also value our relationships with the wider brewing world. We were recently proud to host Urban South Brewery from New Orleans & Birra Perugia from Italy for collaborative brews as part of the Wetherspoons Beer Festival. While these are celebrations of international brewing, they also brought something new and exciting to our local customers, showing that the community can stretch across borders, too.

More Than Just a Brewery

To us, Batemans is more than a place that makes beer. It’s a community hub, a family legacy, and a source of pride for those who work here and enjoy our beers. Whether through charity support, hosting local events, offering employment, or simply pouring a good pint, we’re committed to making a difference.

So next time you enjoy a Batemans beer, know you’re raising a glass to something bigger. Community is at the heart of everything we do; we wouldn’t have it any other way.

Cheers to local roots, strong values, and beer with real character.
