More about owning the Ship Inn

The pub is close to the town centre of Retford and opposite are a large supermarket, the Retford Little Theatre and access to moorings on the Chesterfield Canal, with a small marina just a short distance away. There is ample pay and display parking near the pub, and the train station is just 5 minutes away. Locally there are 2 Primary Schools as well as the newly improved St Giles Academy.

The domestic area is in good decorative order (refurbished in 2017) and consists of 2 double and 1 single bedrooms, a lounge, kitchen, bathroom and separate WC.

The Ship Inn was known as the Rum Runner until the summer of 2017 when a major refurbishment was undertaken to restore the pub to its former glories under its original name, The Ship Inn. The pub was crowned Batemans Pub of the Year in 2018. The Ship is a quality, community locals’ pub situated in a largely residential area. The retail offer is focussed on quality cask ales, with cask marque accreditation and an excellent large beer cellar. There is a good sized well equipped catering kitchen which was also totally upgraded in 2017. The lower area is ideal for live entertainment and pub games and the large courtyard was also upgraded to suit alfresco drinking and dining, as well as watching entertainment. The former micro brewery outbuildings have been partially converted to a self contained restaurant, and it is planned to complete this renovation once a new Business Owners are appointed, with design input from them.

• Passion for real ale • Good marketing and social media skills • Catering experience preferable • Meticulous about retail standards

The rent has been set to take into account the potential trading levels as the business stands at the moment, but discussions will take place regarding a fair rent for when the pub is extensively refurbished.
